Mystic, CT: A Mother's Day Getaway

Over Mother's Day weekend, we took our last trip as a family of three up to Mystic, CT. It is only a few hours drive and rests on the Mystic River making it an adorable sea-town. I had been wanting to take Adelaide to the Mystic Aquarium, and we thought this was the perfect opportunity!

We drove up Saturday afternoon and arrived just before sunset. We pulled up to our colonial B&B, The  House of 1833, with blooming tulips lining the driveway. Gorgeous and patriotic all at the same time. We got the grand tour of the historic sight with all of its unique artifacts and stories over centuries. My favorite was the Jackie O room where the former Mrs. President was fitted for her wedding gown!

After settling in, we roamed the town and found a great seafood spot for dinner: Shipyard Tavern. With live music and an upbeat crowd, we had a perfect little Saturday night. And once Adelaide went to sleep in her very own private, canopy bed, Ryan & I snuck up the to cupola for a nightcap and conversation. A quaint sitting area above our room via an old staircase. The owners had provided sparkling cider for me and cherrie for Ryan.

The next morning we enjoyed a homemade gourmet breakfast in the dining area with fellow B&B guests. A couple celebrating their one year anniversary and a mother of two celebrating Mother's Day with her mom (her husband is deployed, God bless him and all he does for this country!).

With our tummies full, we hit the Mystic Aquarium on the bright sunny day. A mostly outdoor aquarium complete with beluga whales, penguins, sea lions, seals, turtles, frogs, & fish galore. Not to mention sharks, eels, and a butterfly garden. We also enjoyed the Titanic exhibit with real artifacts and portraits from the ancient ship. Adelaide especially loved the engine room where she pressed the red emergency button a million times and "drove" the boat.

Working up a full appetite, we wandered through the Old Mistick Village admiring the shops and restaurants before settling upon Ten Clams. Another seafood meal and we were on the road headed back to New York.

Such a beautiful way to spend Mother's Day and have a mini babymoon as a family! If you ever get the chance, visit this adorable sea-town!
