Saving Mr. Banks: A Movie Review

While in Kentucky, Ryan & I managed to sneak away for a date night. An old-fashioned high school date. Complete with dinner at Steak & Shake followed by a movie. Fancy I know. We sat at the counter sharing a milkshake and grubbing on burgers & fries. He even acted like a high schooler (sort of). Then we hopped over to Stonybrook for our first movie in theaters since Adelaide was born.

I had been dying to see Saving Mr. Banks since I saw the previews. I love Tom Hanks and have seen pretty much any movie he is in. He is just so unbelievably talented that he makes films succeed. Plus who doesn't love a movie related to Disney?!

The story is about Walt Disney (Hanks) and P.L. Traverse (Emma Thompson) collaborating on the screenplay Mary Poppins which Traverse has authored. Deeper than the surface plot is story of how Ms. Poppins came to be which requires a dark reflection into Traverse's childhood. Painful memories that had been turned into a fairytale. It is a beautiful story filled with life, love, & disappointment. A seasoned cast including Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti, & Bradley Whitford makes for an emotion-filled film.

I highly recommend seeing Saving Mr. Banks. Child & adults alike will enjoy the tale of Mary Poppins.
