Hiking 101

In terms of hiking, we definitely took it up a notch this weekend. I consider us to be in 'full swing' with our Summer Summit Series, and we don't seem to be messing around about it.

Summit Series (click here for our complete list of summer hikes!)

Two hikes were scheduled and completed this weekend. A 5-mile roundtrip hike up to the top of East Canyon on Saturday and the 'difficult way up' Temescal Canyon + some on Sunday.

May 1st (set aside the fact that we didn't even touch on the Derby) has been a long discussed day for us. With Betsy & Jack Northam, Mount Whitney veterans, leading a do it in a day discussion at Adventure 16 and exemplifying a resume of climbing the peak 86 times, we had to hear them speak.

Follow that up with the REI friends & family sale and boom you have two crazed hikers. It must be noted that as soon as Ryan found out the coupon was good for 25% off the entire purchase he was on a full-out shopping spree. He honestly reminded me of that game show Supermarket Sweep. We set out to get a set of hiking boots for me and an updated pair for him. We left with 3 pairs of boots, a backpack, 3 water bottles, 2 solar blankets, 2 pairs of socks, 2 chapsticks, and 2 hats. And he would have added another pair of shoes, an emergency kit, matching head flashlights, and much more had I let him.

Check out our gear below...who needs Half Dome & Mt. Whitney? Mount Everest here we come!
