The Thompson Christmas Bucket List: See A Christmas Play

Just before Thanksgiving, BB&T invited us to see a sneak preview of The Santaland Diaries at Actor's Theater. I was excited to have an adult night out so I invited my friend Cynthia to join. We enjoyed a glass of wine and nestled into our seats. The play took place in a smaller theater so the room was super cozy with not a bad seat in the house. The play, a monologue, features an "elf" who tells tales of his time at Macy's during the Christmas season. It had loads of adult humor and truth as we all experience Christmas on "this side" of the jolly holiday. It was a fun night out filled with belly laughs and self reflection as a mom going into the season!

On December 1st, the kids and I went to see our annual Derby Dinner Playhouse holiday show: A Velveteen Rabbit Christmas. We arrived in time to get a hot plate of scrambled eggs, french toast, and biscuits & gravy with a side of chocolate milk. Santa & Mrs. Claus came to visit just before the play began. The cast did a magnificent job portraying Christmas through the eyes of children and showing how they transition from presents, presents, presents to realizing that Christmas is about love, love, love! All three kids loved every minute of the show and asked for the book The Velveteen Rabbit from Santa. Luckily, I have my childhood copy tucked away ;) This truly is one of my favorite traditions with my babies.

A special evening ensued when Mimi took the older granddaughters to dinner and a show. They attended The Nutcracker put on by Sacred Heart School of Performing Arts. Adelaide was so excited to dress up and have a special girls night out with Mimi & her cousins. Sparky delivered a vintage dress for her American Girl doll Molly and they both loved being dolled up! The night was complete with milk, cookies, and a sleepover in the new bunk beds! These are the beautiful memories that I love most between my children and their grandparents and cousins.
