Memory Five: Mom & Dad's Surprise 35th Wedding Anniversary Party
This was one of the best surprise weekends of my life. Friday Emily & I hosted a surprise baby shower for Kara when she was preggo with baby Kendahl. Saturday Kara & Shawn and the Thompsons hosted a City Girl/Country Boy couples shower for Ryan & I. Then Sunday the sibs hosted a surprise party for my parents.
35 years of marriage is amazing to me. Four kids raised, three elderly parents cared for, numerous dogs, and plenty of ups & downs over the years. But my parents are rock solid. No really. They are so in love still that it is beautiful. Not in the mushy gushy everything is so perfect we never ever fight way. Because if you are married then you know that is bullshit and anyone who pretends to have perfection is lying to themselves because there is no such thing as perfect. My parents are the we fully respect one another, are beyond loyal, have immense faith love. I love that love.
They have an inspiring story of how they met and fell in love. Basically my dad was persistent because he gets what he wants. Always. They were engaged 6 weeks after their first date. Married 6 months after meeting. August 7, 1976.
We had been planning the party for a few years knowing that 35 was big. We wanted to celebrate with their family & friends. Everyone was waiting on the porch of Shane & Amanda's old house. Ryan & I said we wanted to treat them to lunch for their anniversary. But we had to pick up something from Shane. SURPRISE!!! Both of my parents were crying. They literally had no clue. It was so awesome to be able to do something to show them how wonderfully lucky we are to have them as parents.
This year they will celebrate 37 years and I am already gearing up for a BIG trip come year 40 ;)
Yay for Mrs. Sandy and Mr. Kevin! :) 37 years now, correct?
