Surprise, Shower, Surprise

To say that this past weekend was event filled is a bit of an understatement. While I love planning parties, I have never taken on such an undertaking before...planning 2 surprise parties and being the guest(s) of honor at another all in one fell swoop. I guess this is what happens when you live clear across the country and have several fun things to celebrate!

Friday we arrived at 1:30am and got about 5 hours of sleep. Sara B came over in the morning to set up the blue & brown candy buffet for our first soiree of the weekend. Adorable. If you haven't had the Kentucky Candy Buffet Co. spice up your party, you are really missing out! After picking up the "K" cupcakes and putting my party dress on, I headed back to the Thompsons to set up the final touches. Em & Aunt Sandra arrived to finish prepping all of the delicious food while MT preppared her famous chicken salad sandwich bites. Grandma Lee brought Grandpa Lee along so he could join in the fun too! I headed out to pick up Kara (guest of honor, mother to 2 almost 3!) and Kinlee. They thought we were treating them to a little dinner...little did they know we had planned a surprise baby shower ;) Kara was so stunned and she thoroughly enjoyed being the honoree as she munched on all things blue candy while opening her gifts for baby boy Kendahl.

Saturday after a little shut eye, Kendahl (my sister, not the baby to be), Taylor, Amanda, & I finalized the plans for mom and dad's 35th anniversary surprise party that was to take place on Sunday. If anyone thinks I am a detective, then you know I get this from my mother's prying and prowling. We all had to boycott her calls and thank the Lord that she had lots of errands to run to keep her busy and from asking too many questions. Apres the rendezvous, we all cleaned up and got ready for our couples shower hosted by SIL (aka Kara). The theme was City Girl (love my country girl dress made by my friend Marea) and Country Boy. Everything fit the theme to a T (no pun intended). Literally, we could not have asked for anything more. It was all just so fabulous. We loved seeing family and friends, catching up on the lives of our pals in Louisville, dining on delicious food, enjoying adult beverages, and laughing a lot.

For the finale, mom and dad celebrated 35 years of marriage on Sunday August 7th. For over a year, we had been planning and plotting their surprise party. We had to make sure that dad didn't whisk her off on a vaca (hence the couples shower being planned for August 6th). Then we all just sort of pretended like it was not a big deal at all...some of us acting like we had forgotten their anniversary all together. Ryan & I offered to take them to lunch before Ryan headed back to SF. I was shaking the whole car ride, all of one mile, to Amanda & Shane's house. I non-chalantly mentioned that A&S wanted to come now and needed a ride so dad, expecting nothing, drove over. As we rounded the corner to their street, nearly 50 people were standing on the porch spilling into the lawn waiting to surprise them. Mom was hysterically sobbing and dad was stunned. We had successfully pulled off our surprise.

Ryan & I had a such a great visit...so great that he contemplated missing his flight Sunday evening. We could not ask for better family or friends, and we feel so blessed to be able to come back to Louisville and celebrate such wonderful, monumental events!
