Tennis Time

As the US Open, last of the majors this year, came to a close yesterday, I felt a touch of sadness for the season. R.Fed didn't come away with any Grand Slam titles this year nor did Wozniacki although she managed to maintain her world #1 ranking.

But I found a glimpse of hope knowing that my tennis team, the Red Devils, is just getting started. We headed to a two-day tournament in Fresno this past weekend. Fresno is inland and about 40 degrees warmer than San Fran. Hydration was the word of the tournament. We played 5 matches in 2 days. A lot of tennis for a group who doesn't play a lot of USTA tournaments. Do the math: 2 (or 3) sets x 5 matches = 10 (or 15) sets of tennis. Nevermind the amount of games a potential set could have (hint: up to 13 games).

Our team came away with a 3-2 record for the weekend. We could have easily won all 5 matches and were by no means out of any match. We fought hard and rose to the occasion in several of the nail biting matches. I was so proud of how several players came back from losing the first set to win the match. I was also proud of several players who, despite being extremely exhausted and dehydrated, pushed through to win their matches. In some cases, those individual wins clenched the match for us.

We have 3 matches this week and I am eager to see how this past weekend prepared us. Wish us luck :)
