9/11 I Remember

It is a moment in time that anyone who was alive will remember exactly where they were and who they were with when the tragedy struck. I was a freshman in college walking to a 10am Theatre 201 class. By the time I reached my class, my teacher was running out of the classroom yelling "the World Trade Center has just been hit." Of course at that time, we all thought it was a mistake, not an act of terrorism. By the end of class, the second tower had been hit. As I scurried back to my dorm, there was an eery silence over the campus.

Jacky (my roommate) and I sat in shock on our dorm room beds watching the aftermath. We heard the screams of people jumping. We saw their bodies being flung from 100's of floors above ground. We felt the hopelessness minds and the pain in their hearts. We watched the greatest country in the world be attacked like never before. And we cried together.

After the anger and the despair subsided, I stood as a proud American. An American who has the utmost respect and loyalty to a man who did everything in his power as the President of the United States to protect us in the wake of the aftermath. A man who was determined to destroy the mastermind behind the attacks. A man who made a promise to the American people and kept his promise. The pressure of being the countries' leader at a time like 9/11 is something unimaginable to me. It is something none of us will EVER know. So while we placed judgement on President Bush, we should have been gracious with our words as we had not walked in his shoes. He rose to the occasion. He kept his word. He fought for the land of the free and the home of the brave.

So on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, along with the fallen, their families, and those who continue to serve our country so that we may be protected, I also want to honor and remember President Bush. A man who put me at ease and restored hope in my heart.
