Copy Cat Closet: My Style

My style you ask? Well it is sort of hard to pin point. I love skinny jeans and a cute top; or a flirty dress with strappy shoes; or a fun skirt with high heels; or something off the wall like a jean jumpsuit. I am not super trendy as I tend to only wear what I feel comfortable in. Because comfort equals confidence and confidence is sexy right?

So when Ma Nouvelle Mode challenged us to display our style this week, I got creative and decided to make a little board of Witty Whit's Style over the years. Its always fun to peek back into our former years to see what was hip & cool right?

Have a looksie here...

O.M.G.
2001 through 2006 was definitely creative ;)

Copy Cat Closet: Floral

Another week, another challenge. I happen to actually really like floral. Mainly because one shirt comes to mind that hangs so delicately in my closet. So it is less effort for me to put together a fancy outfit. Haha.

I nabbed this shirt online for all of $15. Yes you read that correctly. I just thought it was super cute with the floral and the 3/4 length sleeves and the fancy bow necktie. I paired it with a pair of green skinny corduroy pants for our anniversary day date.

Bare with me as I am out of town and this was the best picture of it I could find. If you zoom in or blow up the pic, you can see the details. I slid on a pair of grey ankle booties and called it a day.

I also just wore this outfit to the Late Show with David Letterman in NYC when my mom & sis were visiting. It really is a nice ensemble to wear for any occassion.

Happy Florals!

Copy Cat Closet: Stripes

Linking up with Ma Nouvelle Mode this week for a simple & fun challenge of stripes. I just scored this super fun purple & blue striped sweater at Loft for $20. YES! Major sale and I like it! Paired with my skinny jeans & new Uggs, I hit the streets of N-Y-C with my mom & sister to be tourists.

Copy Cat Closet: Winter Neon

Yeah so neon is bold with a capital B. And very 80's. While I was born in 1983, I wasn't really into fashion during that decade. I did, of course, own a black & neon KNOTB sweater but that was the extent to my neon wardrobe.

Over the summer, I fell in love with Bedazzles After Dark Nikki's neon yellow satchel from Target. I didn't think I could pull off the bright neon so I opted for a shade dimmer in my fave color: blue. I toted it around pre-baby ya know when I actually carried a purse instead of a diaper bag. Again a slightly scarce neon closet.

Enter this week's challenge and my itch to shop 'til I drop in honor of turning 30 and voila:

I snagged this light-weight sweater on clearance from Target which goes perfectly with my skinny jeans. And I just wanted a bit more color to brighten up the grey skies around here so I bought these turquoise wedges as well. It is still too chilly to sport a light sweater so I added the winter cream blazer for warmth. I wore this little number to our January date. It was the perfect fit for comfy yet flirty.

Now I was sort of impressed with myself for finding a neon sweater...but I knew it wasn't the brightest of the brights. SO when I was in J.Crew and saw these neon pink Cece Leather ballet flats, I just HAD to have them. Paired them with a neutral palette per Ma Nouvelle Mode's tips & tricks to create this look for our neighbor's Superbowl party...

Copy Cat Closet: Colored Jeans

You can imagine my delight as I was wearing colored jeans and reading about this week's challenge! I am generally trying to piece together an outfit and find an occasion to wear it. My life is spent in yoga pants while working out or running errands or pj's as to avoid getting spit up on my good clothes. My safest best bet is generally church, but the challenge doesn't always fit with Sunday school. Nonetheless, I love colored jeans because they change it up from normal denim jeans.

I was coming back from New Haven when I got the email about the colored jeans. I realized that I was currently rocking black jeans. I love these because they can be paired with a bright shirt or a black patterned shirt. I was going for office sheek in this case but wanted to add a pop of color (sort of mixed prints as well with the leopard and polka dots).

These are my fave pair of colored jeans. Yep UK blue. Of course they are my favorite. Blue has always been my favorite color. I bought these jeans when I was 4 months pregnant and was able to wear them all 40 weeks. They are stretch jeans which allowed me to fit them under my belly. I have worn them with a pink chambray shirt for our maternity shoot; in a monochromatic fashion; and most importantly, to support my UK Wildcats.

And yes that is a skinny gold belt with UK charms on it in the far right picture...UK 4 Life ;)

My last pair of colored jeans are red hot. I was hoping to get them prior to Christmas, but Ryan said they were out of my size at the time. So I kept an eye out on the VS website and bam! They must have had a return or something. I win ;) These are such a bold pair of pants for me since they are red and shiny making my gut reaction to pair them with a black sweater and call it a day. BUT I decided to get as bold as the pants...

My fave part of this outfit is my new Marc by Marc Jacobs watch;
I got it for Christmas from Santa and I.Adore.It

Copy Cat Closet: Rockin' Shorts in the Winter

This week's Copy Cat Closet challenge called for winter shorts. I immediately recalled how I wore such attire last winter in California. We were spending our last full day in San Francisco and decided to head up to Napa for some wine tasting. The air was "cooler" as you take note of the Uggs; yet clearly warm enough to wear fishnet tights and leave my coat at home.

Tank Top: Express
Blouse: Ditto (Australian)
Shorts: Ditto (Australian)
Tights: Forever 21
Boots: Uggs
Sunglasses: Tiffany's

So despite the frigid temps (9 degrees) here in New York at the present, I decided to rock something similar...adjusting for the chills though! I added thicker tights and leg warmers to keep my twigs warm. I also bundled up with a scarf and forewent the tank, keeping my button-down buttoned up. I liked the black & grey color theme but thought a touch of color would be cute. Thus the pink bow beanie. I scored the boots for Christmas from Ryan and I adore them. I was missing a pair of boots without a heel which is key post-baby. Plus the color works with so much.

What do you think about my New York winter shorts??!!

**Excuse the self-photography as the hubby wasn't home to capture the snapshot.

Copy Cat Closet: Mixing Patterns

Say what?! Copy Cat wants me to do what??!!

Yeah so I this week's challenge was to mix patterns. This girl generally is all matchy-matchy and now you want me to mix some complex nonsense. Ok challenge accepted. Lucky for me, Target is exhibiting a mass amount of prints and I am shopping in honor of my birthday (not until Feb 18 mind you) for the next two months.

So I treated myself to a yellow polka dot blouse and an orange & white chevron print skirt. Paired them with an earth tone jacket & brown boots and sported the ensemble to church Sunday. I thought its the last place that people would be judging me so it was okay. Not sure if the stares were for my spring colors (this girl needs some sunshine in her life), the knee-length skirt rather than pants due to frigid temps, or  shock for my boldness. Either way, I rocked my outfit with confidence.

See for yourself:

Copy Cat Closet: Colored Tights

Sort of missed the boat on this week's Copy Cat Closet: Colored Tights edition so I improvised and decided to show you all flashbacks of my colored jeans that I've been sporting this fall/winter.

Red Jeggings: Bed Bath Beyond (who knew?)
Blue Skinny Jeans: seen here & here
Purple Tights: Target (festively worn here)

I'm looking forward to sporting my red tights for the Christmas holiday in the weeks to come. I generally reserved red & green for the month of December :)

Last year, I was all sorts of festive...

Hard to believe I was also pregnant last Christmas! I'm not sure anything will ever top that Christmas Eve when I took several pregnancy tests which all turned out to be positive ;) And the look on Ryan's face as well as our families when we shared the GREAT news with them!!

Can't wait for the holiday celebrations to begin and to see all of the fun outfits everyone will be sporting!

Copy Cat Closet: Monochromatic Challenge

Finally a Copy Cat Closet edition that I can partake in! For the past few weeks, I was displaced with the hurricane and all so my wardrobe consisted of swimsuits or shorts in FL. Not complaining, just sayin' it wasn't exactly *fall* attire. So I was bound and determined to accept this weeks challenge.

Monochromatic means wearing different shades of the same color apparently. I do a lot of matching as in black bra, black undies, black pants, black shoes, etc but hadn't ever thought to incorporate different shades of one color family.

Recently I read an article about how women have gotten away from dressing up for the everyday life. I certainly find myself in yoga pants and workout shirts a large chunk of the time. I have all of my holiday outfits mapped out, but I rarely *dress up* if I don't have plans. The author remarked how she used to do the same thing until she decided that it made her feel better to be dolled up so she began wearing those sparkly pumps on a Tuesday to lunch with friends or that new scarf to grocery shop on a Thursday. I found her empowering and decided I should do a little more dolling up myself.

So I decided to try out the monochromatic challenge on Sunday while running errands. Yep taking Beau to the groomers, grocery shopping for Thanksgiving, and sipping Starbucks with Ms Adelaide. I opted for a few shades of my favorite color: blue. I broke up the blue with a nude flat and my gold custom Bill Collins necklace as a tribute to my papa.

Copy Cat Closet: Summer Dress Into Fall

I feel like I've been sporting fall/winter clothes for over a year now because I wasn't able to squeeze into my usual summer wardrobe due to having a little bun in the oven. So I am thrilled that we are currently in FL enjoying 81 degrees, sunshine, and shorts :) I am also excited that Ma Nouvelle Mode chose to challenge us with *falling* a summer dress.

While this dress isn't exactly in my summer rotation, I thought it would do the trick. Dressing it up with some festive tights & my Uggs for our date night to The Haunt at Rocky Ledge. I also added a touch of Halloween with my *trick or treat* charm bracelet. Yes, I have one for basically every holiday. I am a nerd holiday junkie.

Dress: vintage
Tights: Target (recent)
Boots: UGGs (old, similar here)
Charm Bracelet: vintage
Peridot & Diamond Ring: custom (see here)

Aside from all of my festive accessories, this little pumpkin is my favorite thing to tote around :)

Copy Cat Closet: Boot Cuffs

Joining the gals over at Ma Nouvelle Mode for another fall edition of Copy Cat Closet. This week the challenge included a bit of accessories to our boots. While I haven't had a chance to rock the boot cuffs just yet this season, I was able to round up a few pics from last season where I rocked them for the first time.

**Tidbit: I wore them while we were in NY house hunting and ultimately conceived our sweet baby girl on said trip. Maybe the boot cuffs were lucky ;)

It was early December when we came to find our new place of residence so I opted for red leg warmers over my skinny jeans and under my UGGs seasoned with my *mistletoe tester* shirt.

Copy Cat Closet: Layering

This Thursday, I'm linking up with Ma Nouvelle Mode for another addition of Copy Cat Closet. Natalia, the author, lives in California so fall hasn't quite reached the west coast just yet. However, with so many cities experiencing cooler temps, this week's challenge of layering was a perfect fit.

As we waver from summer to fall, layering pieces seems the perfect fit to transition into cooler nights. Day time temperatures in Kentucky were around 70 degrees when Adelaide & I were home for our visit, but when the sun went down and nightfall arrived, it was a mere 50 degrees.

Here are two outfits that kept me comfortable during the day and warm at night:

Cords: Gap (here)
Teal Sweater: Express (old)
Grey Sweater: Victoria Secret (old)
White Shirt: Express(old)

Copy Cat Closet: Rockin' the Leggings

I was beyond thrilled to get the newest email from Ma Nouvelle Mode for this week's Copy Cat Closet challenge. I love me some leggings because they can be worn so many different ways. I enjoy sporting them in the fall, winter, and spring. Basically to keep my pasty white legs warm during the cooler months. I have been known to wear leggings with sweaters, three-quarter length blouses, or dresses.

Here are three different ways that I've fashioned leggings this fall so far:

Sweater: Express (old)
Shirt: William Rast (old; seen here)

Copy Cat Closet: An Oversized Shirt

Linking up with Ma Nouvelle Mode for another great challenge this week. Ordinarily I don't care for over-sized clothes as I'm always a fan of form fitting attire. I feel like it fits my body better and is more flattering for me. However, Ryan bought me this sleek yet loose fitting shirt for Christmas a few years ago which I just love.

Two weekends ago we went on a *day* date to run errands before having dinner at Memphis Mae's and I sported my *peace sign* shirt. I generally pair it with my grey skinny jeans & heels (seen here) but opted for grey leggings and my cowgirl boots (another gift from Ryan).

Skirt: William Rast (old)
Leggings: Express (old)
Boots: Lucchese  (custom)

With a turquoise & silver antique watch (my Mama Comley's) and a cream bow for my hair, I kept my accessories simple. The skirt and the boots are enough of a statement for me ;)
