Aspen Michael: 4 1/2 Years Old

    Dearest Aspen,

You are getting to be such a big boy! You are going to school 5 days and are loving it. You are working hard to write your name, learn your numbers, and work on your letter too. I have seen so much growth in you academically over the last few months which makes my heart happy.

For the most part, you go about our morning & evening routine yourself. Getting dressed, grooming with hair & teeth, putting your shoes on, grabbing your backpack and heading to the car. At night, you wash up, clean up the bath toys & hose down any soap, put jammies on, and brush your baby teeth. I can see the pride in your eyes that comes when you say "I can do it myself mom."

You had a fun summer swimming on the swim team and doing all of the swim meets including City Meet. I have never been so proud of your hardwork and determination. To see you be so proud of yourself was icing on the cake!

Speaking of summer, you were a diving board machine. No fear at all again and Coach Joseph is recruiting your for the HCC diving team next year!

You had a great time at the HCC Little Linksters, playing golf with other kids. You are still doing your weekly lessons and Coach Jesse takes you out on the BIG coarse as well as lets your practice driving the golf cart ;)

You and your siblings had our first camp in where we camped in tents inside the house. You absolutely loved it. We roasted s'mores in pjs, told ghost stories, & slept in sleeping bags in our tents. You loved playing in them so much that we kept them in the basement for weeks. I can't wait to take you real camping next spring/summer!

You love to tell me,  "I know that mom," or, "I already know." You do not like to be told something twice or asked perpetually especially if you understand it.

You have a new found love thanks to your dad~ race car driving! He takes you out to this indoor track and you drive that race car like a pro. You are definitely a Collins :) Aunt Kiki is so proud of your racing skills too!

We had our first mommy/son overnight trip. We headed up to Cincinnati for a Reds game, special dinner where you wore a tuxedo, sleepover, breakfast in bed, movie morning, and great conversation. It was a trip that I will cherish for the rest of my life and I hope you do too. It was so nice to spend one-on-one time and just enjoy our two days without feeling rushed. I got to say "yes" to your questions and requests. I felt how special it was for you to not have to compete for my attention. We will have to make this a more regular special time!

You are working on controlling/processing your emotions and understanding others emotions. You have started back to OT which I hope helps you feel more comfortable in social settings. You have two best buddies at school: Luke & Ramsey. You light up when you tell me that you road bikes with them or played with the dinosaurs at school. I see your personality opening up, and I hope that you become more comfortable with yourself and your peers.

You have come such a long way in terms of growth & maturity. You are no longer napping the majority of days and that is causing a little blip in your moods, but overall I see you working hard to be the best you can be! I love that you want to be like your big sister, want to help your little brother, and soothe your baby sister. You have a special role in our family and you do not take it lightly!

    I love you!

    Love,

    Mommy
