This year our pumpkin patch picking looked a little different at Gallrein Farms. It was a perfect fall day making for lots of families having the same idea so the lines for the hayride out to the patch was just too long for our little ones (and truth be told myself). So we decided to improvise and check out the "indoor" patch they had set up. There was actually a nice selection and the kids enjoyed picking through to find the perfect one. They each got a small pumpkin to fit into their adorable U-Pick Pumpkin bags from Target. Then they picked their "big" pumpkin. We had quite the selection with a tradition round orange, a large stemless white, and a grayish oval gourd. It was a sight to see carrying to the car as I was solo with the pumpkin pickers. We had to improvise but we all made it {1 adult, 4 kids, and 8 pumpkins}.
That evening we sat on the front porch in Halloween pjs and decorated our pumpkins. The kids decided to stage the big one and decorate the little one. Cat faces for the girls' creations and pirates for the boys masterpieces. It was quick, easy, and a tear free activity. My four little pumpkins couldn't wait to admire their work and *finally* some fall decorations outside our home!
