The Thing They Don't Tell You About Having Your 2nd Baby...

...is that your FIRST baby will seem like a mature toddler as soon as you come home.

You will be riding in the car on the way home and glance back at her, all snug in her car seat watching Sophia the First holding her bunny and paci. Looking so innocent and so fragile as you know that her entire world has just changed in minutes.

You will feel a wave of emotions with strong intensity. A beaming sense of pride and love for the first life you gave birth to. Then a tinge of sadness as she is living proof that time does not stand still even when you want it to. A jolt of guilt for somehow playing a part in making her a big girl even though it was going to happen with or without your "help."

Tears will well up in your eyes because you feel happy & sad in one fell swoop and as she calls out "mommy" while reaching for your hand, you will let those tears fall down your face because you realize that she still needs you. And as you cry and she makes a soft cry as to say "mommy don't cry it will all be okay," you can't help but smile. Because you know she gets you.

Adelaide & Aspen: Siblings Meet

Shortly after Aspen was born, his big sister Adelaide came to meet him. She ran right up to the bed where we were sitting and said, "baby! up mommy!" She smiled at him and kept pointing saying "baby." Yes, your baby. Your baby brother Aspen. She can even say his name already!

Aspen had a present waiting for his big sis filled with all of her favorite goodies!

She wasn't thrilled when the nurse came to give him his first bath. In fact, she jumped right off the bed and ran down the hall following yelling "baby!"

She was full of kisses and loving on him from the start.

He seems to love her all the same. Even letting her grab his little tiny toes and give them a hug. Sometimes he even let her hold his hand!

I think they are going to be the best of friends!

Aspen Michael Thompson: Arrived May 19, 2014

Adelaide doing chubby baby to Papa

Sporting a birth story much like his big sister (only he so graciously came with only 5 minutes of pushing compared to her 1hr 22 minutes!), our baby boy arrived at 4:30pm on Monday May 19, 2014 weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces and measuring 21 inches long. His hands are huge like his Papa and his toes are long like his mommy. He has long black sideburns and the cutest receeding hairline on top of his head. He is just as perfect as his sister Adelaide. A beautiful combination of his mommy & daddy. There is no denying that he looks like his big sister which is wonderful. They both sport chubby cheeks well as newborns!

You might recall from Adelaide's birth story how her name came to be. In the same manor, Aspen is a city in Colorado and arguably Ryan's favorite place. Michael is Ryan's middle name.

We are savoring all of the newborn sweetness from our baby boy before he gets to be so big like his sister Adelaide...who by the way is absolutely in love with "her baby!"
