Sochi 2014: Little People Style

Getting into the Olympic spirit and shielding of the winter blues, we invited our friends Whitney, Tommy, & Caileigh over Sunday evening for some Russian cuisine and Olympic games.

Inspired by the Today Show while working out on Friday, I whipped up beef stroganoff as well as lemon raspberry meringue tarts. Complete with a very-American colored table setting for TEAM USA of course.

Red, white, & blue

And mini torches for the kiddos

A few decorations set up the Olympic Village where athletes competed and medaled. There was mini ice skating and winter sport coloring.

FROZEN

In case you haven't noticed, the midwest, south, & northeast have been FROZEN for what seems like an eternity. Plus the Disney movie was all the rage so I decided to theme our Tuesday playgroup last week with all things "frozen.

Snowflake cookies to take home

The book Frozen for the kids

Snowflake donuts!

White & Blue food...might have helped that it was on a UK game day too!

Love this quote from Frozen

If I thought Adelaide would sit through the film, I would 100% take her to see it! Maybe I'll catch it by myself one day ;)

Valentine's Fun

If you've been following the blog for awhile, then you know I love holidays. All of them. I don't discriminate. At the first of the month, you can find our house decorated. Treats out for Adelaide & Ryan. Festive meals at every chance I get. I just figure you should celebrate the little things in life, plus it always gives me something to look forward to. Sort of breaks up the mundane-ness of the daily routine.

This Valentine's month is no different. February is really my favorite month for many reasons (one being its my bday month, two being its all about love, and so on...) so I greet it with open arms! Especially since it has been a brutal winter, I was thrilled to "round the corner" and get to February 1st.

Here's what we've been up to...

Open Cupid's surprise with Dadd

Shake those mini M&Ms

Heart & arrow bacon and egg sandwich

Heart-shaped PB&J

Dunkin Donuts works wonders

Beau & his Valentine

Pink pancakes for a snow day breakfast

Where is Adelaide?

There she is!

Peek-a-boo Mommy!

Love from our hands & feet

Valentine pudding parfaits

Hope you are staying warm, sane, & in love this February!

David & Goliath: A Book Review

While on my layover on the way to Naples, I decided to snag a book to read.  I used to read non-stop but since Adelaide's arrival I've drastically cutback. But with no set schedule and a lot of relaxation planned in Naples, I decided to scoop up the newest Malcolm Gladwell book. So glad I did.

Gladwell never disappoints and David &Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and The Art of Battling Guants was no different. The concept is simple. Things aren't always what they seem, and too much power or power without legitimacy can be a negative in society. Centered by the story of David & Goliath, Gladwell recounts story after story throughout history of how the underdog rises above the giant. From classroom size to Ivy League schools and civil rights to criminal imprisonment, Gladwell exposes the advantages of disadvantages, the desirability of difficulties, and the limits of power.

Truly a great read for all readers alike. Pick up a copy at your local bookstore or older online here.

Naples: A Sunny Escape

We evaded winter a bit with a week in Naples. Joined by my parents, Kara, Kendahl (my nephew), and Emily. The weather was perfect with sun & blue skies plus warm tempartures...like flip flops and shorts kind of temps. We enjoyed daily walks, being outside, and relaxing with no where to be.

Take me back!
